Welcome to CADS Autism, your local autism and ADHD assessment centre in Market Harborough serving Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and the East Midlands. We specialise in autism and ADHD assessments for children, young people and adults. We offer in-person autism assessments (ADOS) and ADHD observation/interview, and for clients over 11 years old there is the option of the ADOS and ADHD observation/interview online, if preferred. CADS Autism was founded in 2020 by Dr. Astrid van Wilsem, a Clinical Psychologist, and Tania Richards, a Speech and Language Therapist, our team brings over 50 years of combined experience to every autism assessment. Having worked extensively both in private practice and within the NHS, we specialise in providing comprehensive autism assessments for children and adults, starting from 3 years old.

At CADS Autism, we understand the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for autism and ADHD diagnosis. That's why we're proud to offer a team comprising a Clinical Psychologist, a Speech and Language Therapist, and collaborating with a Mental Health Nurse trained as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist for our multi-disciplinary team autism assessments. For clients under 18, our autism assessments involve the active participation of these three clinicians, drawing from their extensive backgrounds in NHS autism assessment centres and private practice.

 

Our commitment to quality extends to our adherence to NICE guidelines for autism and ADHD assessments and our clinicians' registration with the Health Care Professional Council, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. We prioritise the well-being of our clients throughout the autism and ADHD assessment process, striving to schedule the first appointment within a few weeks of contact.

 

On completion of the autism and ADHD assessment, we offer an in-depth comprehensive report and clear signposting to services, addressing individual needs identified during the autism and ADHD assessment process. Should the autism and/or ADHD assessment indicate other neuro-developmental conditions, we will provide comprehensive reporting and appropriate signposting.

 

Recognising the demands of modern life, we offer flexible scheduling with weekend and evening appointments available, minimising disruption to work and school routines. It is important to get the diagnosis right; during this session we can discuss options for you and your family. we offer a free, brief telephone consultation explaining the assessment process and to consider whether you would like to continue with formal assessment

Gold standard autism assessment

The assessment involves two main appointments. The first is to gather a detailed history about your child/young person's development using the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R) and the Autism Clinical Interview for adults (ACIA).

The second is a direct observation exploring patterns of interaction in more detail using a standardised measure (ADOS-2;Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule;second edition).

​

In addition, information is also gathered from schools, colleges, universities and for adult assessments, yourself and relatives, through screening questionnaires. 

​

The information gathered is used in a diagnostic algorithm for autism based on the DSM5.

​

This option includes a detailed diagnostic report, advice and recommendations

Gold standard ADHD assessment

Using the DIVA 5, core symptoms of ADHD  are explored required to make the DSM 5 diagnosis. In addition, a direct observation/interview is carried out with the young person/adult, gathering information based around the DSM 5 criteria.

 

In addition, information is also gathered from schools, colleges, universities and for adult assessments, yourself and relatives, through screening questionnaires.

The information gathered is used in a diagnostic algorithm for ADHD based on the DSM5.

​

This option includes a detailed diagnostic report, advice and recommendations

Fee: £1700

bespoke intervention to support people with autism

We offer a range of services to support individuals with moving forward following diagnosis. Interventions include workshops, staff training, teaching and family support and individual interventions. 

The service can be commissioned by schools, employers or families depending on what is best for your requirements.

What We Do

Information is gathered through completion of an initial contact form. This information includes; the reason for referral, current worries and behaviours, risk assessment and pregnancy, birth and other perinatal difficulties. Educational history will also be gathered at this point.

The Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised (ADI-R) is used for our clients that are under 18 years old. The ADI-R is a very detailed 3 hour long online interview and will be carried out via Google Meet. 

 

For our adult clients we use the Informant version of the ACIA (Autism Clinical Interview Adults). The ACIA is a semi structured interview that identifies information on core autism characteristics needed for a diagnosis. The ACIA takes between 2 and 3 hours and will be carried out via Google Meet.

ADHD Assessment

Diva 5 

The Young DIVA-5 (The Diagnostic Interview for young people) is based on the DSM-5 criteria for ADHD. It is a structured clinical interview, carried out with parents, for ADHD in young people aged 5-17 years. The interview takes between 1.5-2 hours and will be carried out via Google Meet. 

 

For our adult clients the DIVA 5 is carried out.  

The DIVA-5 asks about: 

  • The presence of ADHD symptoms in adulthood and childhood 

  • The chronicity of these symptoms 

  • Significant lifetime impairments due to these symptoms

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale (ADOS) takes around 1-1.5 hours, and will be carried out face to face or online with the clinician.

ADHD Assessment

Observation/Interview

An ADHD observation assessment is a part of the process of diagnosing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) that involves observing a child's behaviour. During the observation, we will be considering your child's activity levels, ability to concentrate and focus, and any impulsivity. We will also look at their general behaviour and how they interact in clinic in addition  to gathering information on how they interact with their peers and teachers in school.

ADHD Assessment

SNAP IV

The SNAP IV is a rating scale used to assess symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (AD) in children and. It is a widely used tool for diagnosing and monitoring ADHD. The SNAP IV questionnaire consists of 26 questions and is completed by parents, teachers, or other caregivers who observe the child's behaviour.

MDT/DSM5

Multi Disciplinary Team: Once the information gathering process is complete, for children three clinicians  then meet to discuss  our  findings from our autism diagnostic assessment and two clinicians meet to discuss findings from our ADHD assessment and compare against the DSM-5 criteria. For adults, two clinicians meet to discuss and compare against the DSM-5. 

INITIAL ASSESSMENT

School Feedback Questionnaire; this questionnaire will be sent to school (if applicable) to get information from a school perspective

FOLLOWING THE ASSESSMENT

  • A Feedback Appointment will be offered: the outcome of the assessment is then relayed back to you in a 30 minute feedback session so that we can explain our findings in detail.

  • Report: We will send out a detailed report explaining the results, local supports and further recommendations.
